Story

The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns revealed that many countries and governments were not sufficiently prepared to mitigate shocks of this scale. It proved that robust social protection measures are not only important for countries to adopt, they’re essential.

The EU-funded Technical Assistance to Support Social Security Reform, implemented by a consortium led by development consultancy Ecorys, supports the Government of Bangladesh to achieve budget support targets. TA SSSR provides technical advisory and capacity building support to the Cabinet Division and concerned line ministries. TA SSSR supported a number of ministries to better deliver services and increase the number of citizens reached through social security plans and programmes.

Through TA SSSR, the EU provided holistic social protection capacity building at all levels of government from local to national in the form of workshops, challenge prizes and incentives, skills training, communications collaterals, and strengthening their network of practitioners, actors and change-makers.

Approach

Big Blue was contracted through Ecorys to provide professional communications products and services, including impactful thematic brochures and leaflets, an animation on the importance of social protection, and communications advisory.

Results

TA SSSR continues to implement its national social security reform agenda. Since 2019, more than EUR 156.5 million has been put in place to strengthen the Bangladesh government’s planning, delivery and monitoring capacities in this sector.
