Blue Gold Program

Communicating water stories in southwest Bangladesh

Partner: Euroconsult Mott MacDonald

Big result

We captured seven years of water management knowledge for the Blue Gold Program. This knowledge is now available as a research portal and a large volume of storytelling products that tell the world about Blue Gold.

Story

Blue Gold improved water infrastructure in coastal areas in south-west Bangladesh from 2013 to 2021.

The programme helped water management organisations to develop their local economies. It also provided advice on crop technologies and sales of produce.

Big Blue was a long-term communications partner. We captured knowledge as research products, publications, film, and data visualisations.

We then produced a research portal. The portal includes includes lessons for future activities in the country’s coastal zone.

Approach

Big Blue joined Blue Gold in 2019. We embedded ourselves deeply into the programme. We established relationships with staff, government, and community members.

Water management can be complex. We helped the programme to communicate plainly and accessibly in ways that audiences understand.

We converted complex technical documentation into case studies, briefs, and slides.

We focused on visuals. We blended film, animation, photography, and illustrations.

Finally, we developed a research portal in an accessible, non-academic format. Its wiki format enables fast search and navigation.
