Big result

Since 2020, Big Blue has assisted the ITF Seafarers’ Trust to launch and maintain a web- and app-based occupational safety and health training course, Occupational Safety and Health in Ports (OSH Ports). Available in the Google Play and Apple App stores as well as taking online as a web-based Moodle course, this programme targets thousands of port workers, in Latin America and the Caribbean, and beyond.

Story

“Why an e-learning course?”

• At the time of its creation, port worker injuries and deaths in the Middle East were (and continue to be) a massive, under-reported issue.

• Port workers need support and training that creates healthier, safer working environments.

• OSH Ports was originally designed to curb the unacceptably high numbers of port injuries and deaths in the Middle East.

• Following a successful pilot, OSH Ports has now launched in Latin America and the Caribbean to new audiences.

Approach

We converted technical content into an engaging online experience. That experience includes games, quizzes, and assessments.

We developed the fictional world of Sunny Bay.

Photos and video of unsafe port working conditions is challenging. We animated and illustrated these conditions.

We collaborated with the ITF-ST, digital education specialists, union representatives, and industry experts.

The result is a digital experience designed to create safer work environments.

Results

OSH Ports is available to port workers in the Arab World, Latin America and the Caribbean, and outside. Available in English, Arabic, Spanish and Portuguese. Eight hours of quizzes, assessments, video, animation, and meaningful content.
