Building digital advocacy capacity for Bangladesh's SDG network

Partner: Porticus Foundation

Big results

Big Blue designed and delivered DigiWave, a 15-month digital advocacy and capacity-building programme that equipped 15 member organisations of the Citizens’ Platform for SDGs with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to engage Bangladesh’s youth more effectively through digital communications.

Story

Bangladesh has one of the world’s largest youth populations, yet many young people remain disconnected from civic participation. Recognising that many member organisations lacked the digital communication skills needed to reach and mobilise youth audiences, the Citizens’ Platform for SDGs, with support from Porticus Foundation, partnered with Big Blue to design a long-term capacity-building programme. The goal was to strengthen digital advocacy across the network while supporting progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

Approach

Big Blue designed DigiWave as a practical, cohort-based learning programme combining live workshops, advisory support, and strategic communications guidance. Over 15 months, participating organisations received hands-on training in digital communications, social media strategy, storytelling, audience engagement, branding, campaign planning, and content development. Alongside the training programme, Big Blue developed a comprehensive Communicator’s Toolkit, enabling more than 150 member organisations across the wider Citizens’ Platform network to adopt consistent, effective digital communication practices beyond the core training cohort.

Results

DigiWave significantly strengthened the digital communication and advocacy capacity of participating organisations. Through six interactive learning sessions, practical resources, and ongoing mentoring, organisations improved their ability to engage young audiences, communicate their work more strategically, and amplify their advocacy efforts online. The Communicator’s Toolkit continues to serve as a lasting resource across the wider Citizens’ Platform network, supporting stronger collaboration and more effective digital engagement for SDG advocacy in Bangladesh.
